We clinked our glasses together in a toast and continued to talk for a bit while we drank and chose our food.

“Whoa… ‘Hellfire Noodles’? Sounds dangerous,” I said.

“…I like spicy food. I’ll order some,” said Melissa.

“A-are you sure? I think this ‘Noodles with Tender Dairy Cow Brisket’ is a better choice…”

“Were you thinking of ordering that, too? The food descriptions make everything sound nice,” said Igarashi, before ordering what Madoka had just suggested—not that it meant anything for her to order breast meat. If Ryouko and Louisa ordered that dish and I’d reacted the same way, they’d have all thought I was totally worthless.

“It’s written with the Chinese characters for supple and milk… So milk that makes the body supple?”

“O-oh, I see… So it’s tender. That’s what I thought,” I stammered.

“What’s wrong, Atobe?” asked Igarashi. “Your face is turning all red—are you hot? There’s no way the alcohol’s getting to you already. Do you want some water to drink?”

“S-sorry, I don’t get this drunk normally.”

“Alcohol can affect you differently depending on your condition. You just need to be careful,” cautioned Elitia. I wasn’t actually drunk, but I took the water Elitia offered me. It had some sort of herb in it, because it was quite refreshing. My mouth felt cleansed. Must’ve been something like lemongrass.

“…Wh-what’s up? Why are you both staring at me?” I asked Kaede and Ibuki.

“O-oh… I was just thinking how this all felt really comfortable. It’s so natural how Kyouka takes care of you.”

“So… You and Kyouka really are dating, aren’t you…?”

“Uh… N-no, we’re not. We worked at the same company before we reincarnated, so we’ve known each other for a long time…”

“So you were able to build a good, trusting relationship at your company before you reincarnated,” said Anna.

“Uh… Th-the thing is…I wasn’t exactly the best manager…,” murmured Igarashi. Everyone else would start to suspect me if I tried to help her now, and it’d just turn into an infinite loop. I instead decided to just change the subject.

“Have you guys decided what you’re ordering?”

“Oh, y-yes. I’m going to have this ‘Sea Hummingbird’s Nest Soup.’ And this ‘Drunken Mud Shrimp’…is that like normal drunken shrimp? I’d like to try that as well.”

“Me too. About this ‘Rising Dragon’s Treasure’… You read the kanji as xiaolongbao, right?”

“The description says they’re dumplings filled with meat and soup, so that must be what they are. I’ll have that and…”

Four Seasons went about ordering their food. Elitia also seemed interested in the xiaolongbao buns, so she asked Suzuna and Misaki if they’d like to split an order.

I let Theresia, who was sitting next to me, look at the menu and had her choose what she wanted.

“……”

“You’re gonna get the same thing as me? I’m not sure that’ll be enough for you. I think you should get two more small dishes.”

Theresia nodded. She chose salted fried noodles with vegetables and rib meat, and roast Sweet Bird. The latter seemed to be eaten a lot like Peking duck based on the menu’s illustration.

There was a rice-based menu as well, so everyone was able to pick something they wanted.
